JERUSALEM (EJP)—As Israel mourned the passing of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, terrorists from Gaza fired two rockets at southern Israel. In response to the rocket fire, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) targeted two terror sites in Gaza.
According to the Israeli radio, Israeli Air Force jets hit Islamic Jihad targets near Deir el-Balah. No injuries were reported.
Earlier, two rockets were fired at the western Negev from Gaza just as the funeral of Arfiel Sharon ended.
The two rockets fell in an open area near the border fence in the Sha’ar Hanegev regional council. There were no injuries or damage reported.
Earlier in the day two rockets landed inside the strip. The IDF said they were test fires by terror groups in the Strip.
Israel’s leaders and foreign dignitaries, including US Vice President Joe Biden, attended Monday afternoon the burial ceremony of Sharon at the family’s Sycamore Farm, which is located east of the town of Sderot and only seven kilometers (4.3 miles) from the border with Gaza.
Security sources said Israel had deployed an Iron Dome rocket interceptor near Sycamore Farm, which had been hit by Gaza-launched rockets in the past.
Rockets from the Hamas-run territory have hit the Sharon farm several times in the past.
