The husband of a candidate for the upcoming parliament elections in France was violently attacked and called “dirty Jew” last week while he was sticking posters in a neighborhood of the eastern city of Strasbourg, AFP news agency reported.
Liron Rozenhaft’s wife Audrey is standing for the opposition conservative Les Républicains (LR) Party in the city.
“At about 8 p.m. on Thursday night, my husband was putting up a poster on the official signs when two young people on scooters turned around him and took the poster down,” Audrey Rozenhaft said.
Liron Rozenhaft then walked away to stick a new poster on another sign, before being followed by the two young men, who were quickly joined by about ten individuals.
“They then punched him, called him ‘fatty’ and ‘dirty Jew’.
The man spent a night in hospital for observation and suffers from a “brain effusion”.
On Friday, the candidate shared on her Facebook account photos of her husband with a swollen face.
A complaint has been filed with the national police and an investigation is underway
