PARIS (EJP)--- The chairman of the French Assembly defence committee Guy Teissier has told French newspaper ‘Le Parisien’ that the French soldiers of UNIFIL could attack Israeli forces if the IDF targets South Lebanon.

“French soldiers aren’t there to disarm Hezbollah, but to support the Lebanese army which is in charge of disarmament. If French or Italian soldiers find weapons they will report them to the Lebanese army which will seize them. The Lebanese want to keep their pride; it’s a way of rehabilitating their army. But our soldiers could also counter an Israeli aggression in South Lebanon”, Tessier, who headed recently a parliamentary visit in southern Lebanon, said last Friday.

Teissier, also the deputy chairman of the France-Israel parliamentary committee, told ‘Le Parisien’ he met with a Hezbollah official while visiting Beirut.

“I met with representatives of every party and religion. Hezbollah’s delegate assured me the French soldiers were welcome, especially since they are the heirs of the ‘Resistance’ and they can understand Hezbollah which is defending its land.”
