BRUSSELS (EJP)---The European Parliament in Brussels will host Wednesday an event celebrating "Jerusalem Day".

Jerusalem Day, or 'Yom Yerushalayim' in Hebrew, is an Israeli national holiday commemorating the reunification of Jerusalem and the establishment of Israeli control over the Old City in June 1967.

European Parliament Vice President Alejo Vidal-Quardas, Israeli Minister Yossi Peled, as well as several members of the parliament and of the delegation with Israel, will be guests of honor at this event.

The celebration was initiated by the European Jewish Community Center (EJCC), a member organization of  the European Jewish Association (EJA), in partnership with Bnai Brith Europe and Finish MEP Hannu Takkula.

‘Jerusalem Day’ will also feature an exhibition of rare and vintage photos taken in Jerusalem throughout history.

"This is the fifth consecutive year that we are commemorating Jerusalem Day in the EU parliament. The event is an indication of the European community's friendship with Israel and the Jewish people, and I invite all of the European community to come to Jerusalem and experience all it has to offe,” said EJCC director Avi Tawil.

EJCC’s  programs are designed to strengthen Jewish identity and understanding of Jewish culture to the wider community.

EJA director Menachem Margolin added, “In this age of economical uncertainty and rising intolerance, the EJA and its 20 subsidiary organizations, is working towards creating a more peaceful and multi -cultural European society that respects all religions, cultures and races.”
