Israeli security forces kill Palestinian terrorist behind murder of Israeli father of six

Rabbi Raziel Shevach,, shown with his family, was killed in a shooting near Nablus.

JERUSALEM—Israeli security forces shot and killed the Palestinian terrorist behind the murder of an Israeli father of six.

Nearly a month after Rabbi Raziel Shevach was killed in a drive-by attack at the Havat Gilad outpost junction in Samaria (northern West Bank), Ahmed Nassar Jarrar, a resident of Jenin, was killed Tuesday morning in a combined ISA-IDF-Israel Police operation, the Israel Security Agency said in a statement.

Jarrar was the principal operative in the terrorist cell that perpetrated the 9 January shooting near Havat Gilad and personally participated in the attack, the statement said.

During the attempt to arrest him, Jarrar emerged armed from the structure in Yamoun in which he was hiding and was shot by the security forces. An M-16 and a pack with explosives were discovered on his person. There were no injuries to our forces.

The ISA investigation of detained cell members has revealed that the cell was involved in other attempts to carry out and plan terrorist attacks.

In a statement issued after the operation, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “I praise the security forces for the determined and complex operation they carried out last night to apprehend the terrorist, who was ultimately eliminated. Several days ago I told Rabbi Raziel Shevach’s widow that we would catch the murderers and last night the mission was completed.”

“The security forces will catch whoever tries to attack Israeli citizens and we will deal with them to the fullest extent of the law. So it will be with the murderers of Rabbi Itamar Ben-Gal,” he said, referring to the Israeli father of four killed Monday afternoon in a stabbing attack in the city of Ariel.

Ben-Gal’s killer, identified as a resident of Jaffa with an Arab-Israeli mother and a Palestinian father, remained at large as of Tuesday morning.

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman condemned the Palestinian Authority and its conduct following the terror attack in ArieL.

“20 years ago I gave an ambulance to Har Bracha hoping it would be used to deliver healthy babies. Instead, a man from Har Bracha was just murdered by a terrorist, leaving behind a wife and four children. Palestinian ‘leaders’ have praised the killer. Praying for the BenGal family,” the Ambassador wrote in a Tweet.
